To celebrate Black History Month, the Oklahoma History Center and the Smithsonian Channel are excited to present a screening of Seizing Justice: The Greensboro 4, followed by a panel discussion about the Oklahoma sit-in movement. This screening will be held on Saturday, February 5, from 1 to 3 p.m., and is included with paid admission to the Oklahoma History Center.

Congratulations to Donavin Evans for earning first place in power lifting in small schools in the 145 lbs. class at the Strother Yellowjacket Powerlifting Meet on January 21, 2022. Donavin is a 10 grader at Okemah High School. Also, congratulations to Tia Neal on being selected Okemah Upper Elementary Student of the Month for January. Tia is a 5 grader at Okemah. Donavin and Tia are siblings and grandchildren of Dr. Claud and Elaine Evans and children of Kelli Neal of Okemah.

Back then another viral infection was terrorizing the world. In a one-week period (1947) during the polio epidemic two children died in Stonewall. I knew them both and it certainly got my attention. One was a boy, my age who, healthy and riding his bike around Stonewall one day, died in his sleep that next night. Chocked to death by a paralyzing virus called polio. The next Sunday, a pretty teen girl went to Sunday School at the First Baptist Church with a sore throat.

Mr. Roy Lee Puckett, 86, a resident of Dustin, Oklahoma passed away at his home on Friday, January 21, 2022. Roy was born November 13, 1935 in Weleetka, Oklahoma to Byrdene (Staggs) and Lillard Fate Puckett. He married the love of his life, Barbara (Mannon) on July 4, 1957 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Roy is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Mannon) Puckett, parents, brothers Bobby Puckett, John Doyle Puckett, Joe Puckett, Tommy Puckett and sister Dorothy (Puckett) Douglas. Those left behind to cherish Roy’s memory are his daughters: Sherry Mcloud of Weleetka, Shelly Ogle of Henryetta, Carol Shepherd and husband Brian of Keifer; grandchildren: Mark Wynne, Michael Wynne, Jeffrey Wynne, Heather Ogle, Jessica Shepherd and Brandi Johnson; as well as fifteen great grandchildren. Officiating: Pastor Steve Puckett Speaking: Deacon David Reynolds Pallbearers: Mark Wynne, Michael Wynne, Jeffrey Wynne, Chad Wynne, Blake Wynne and Lincoln Mccarty Honorary Pallbearers: Brian Shepherd and Carroll Mcloud. Viewing and Visitation was held from 3:00PM to 8:00PM, Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Integrity Funeral Service Funeral service was held 2:00PM Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Integrity Funeral Service Chapel, 410 East Trudgeon, Henryetta, Oklahoma. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weleetka, Oklahoma.
