Dr. Donnie L. Nero Sr. Speaks

Dr. Donnie L. Nero Sr. spoke at the “Out of Africa into America” Phyllis Wheatley School Reunion held at McAlester, Oklahoma last week. The theme for their reunion was “Our Roots are Here.” Phyllis Wheatley was an all-Black Rosenwald School located near Hartshorne & 69 North Highway. It was the only Rosenwald school in the county. The school began as the Dunbar, Crowder and Dow schools until the Rosenwald fund constructed the last building. The school system existed from 1909 until 1956.

Donna Wilson and Camera Crew Visit Clearview

Donna Wilson and camera crew of America’s Black Forum, a Washington, DCbased producer, hosted by President of the National urban League, Marc Morial visited in Clearview on Monday with Mayor Marilyn Jackson, Trustee Donnie Nero, and Clearview historian Shirley Nero to discuss the Black townships of Oklahoma, particularly the town of Clearview and its future.

Nero Family Visit Northeast Arkansas

Donnie and Shirley accompanied their son Donnie Jr. and daughter and sonin- law Tanya and Marvin Blades Jr. and grandchildren Makai, Jordan, Jada, and Berlin to Eureka Springs. They rented a cabin on Beaver Lake and spent their time swimming, driving into Eureka Springs to shop and enjoy the many activities in the area.
