Bless the Silence

Aunt Sophia was a great storyteller with a knack for tugging at hearts and tickling funny bones when she had a captive audience of one or more. Her listeners would be transported to another time, enchanted, forgetting about their heartache or woes. Always leaving surprised at the ending, which usually brought about opinions, always laughter. Life is quieter now, her passing left a silence, a longing for intriguing, happy sketches of beloved places, family, friends, and interesting occurrences. Her telling of ghost stories could cause one to pause, question if they should believe these fascinating, at times suspicious tales of spirits or haunted places. Especially after she spoke lovingly of visits to the cemetery, time spent speaking to long-departed souls she believed lingered in spirit, giving her reason to chat, never doubting they couldn’t hear her.
