Congratulations to Dr. Ruth Ray Jackson

On Friday, March 14, 2025, Dr. Donnie and Shirley Nero and Dr. Claud and Elayne Evans traveled to Langston University at Langston, Oklahoma to witness the Investiture Ceremony of Dr. Ruth Ray Jackson, 17th President of Langton University. During her acceptance speech, Dr. Jackson expressed gratitude to her supporters and outlined her vision for the future of the university. Congratulations to Dr. Jackson, who is the second woman to assume this prestigious position.

A Women’s History Moment ~ Mrs. Lena Lowery Sawner

In 1874, Lena Lowery was born in Richmond, Indiana. Little is known about her early life, educational background, and awards. In 1902 she became principal of Douglas School in Chandler, Oklahoma. The following year she married George W.F Sawner, a wealthy local businessman. From 1902 to 1934, Mrs. Sawner served as Principal of Douglas School in Chandler. She distinguished herself as a master educator, Black activist, humanitarian, and elegant role model. She demanded that the quality of education received at Douglas be equal to or better than that provided in the segregated white school system.

Wetumka High School Report Card

The Oklahoma State Department of Education has released their Oklahoma School Report Cards for the 2023-24 school year. The information comes from testing done in the spring of 2024. According to www.schoolreportcards.ok.gov, report card measures serve as indicators of how public schools are serving students in a variety of areas. Measured at different points, indicators work together to provide a snapshot of school performance.
