Three people have been charged with trafficking in illegal drugs after a traffic stop in Wetumka. At approximately 2:40pm on July 9, Officer Jeremy Chasteen of the Wetumka Police Department pulled over a white Chevy pickup for speeding, 36mph in a 25mph zone. While asking the driver for his license and registration, Officer Chasteen smelled a strong smell of what he believed to be marijuana. He asked the driver, later identified as Estaban Duenas, 25 of Port Arthur, Texas, if he had any marijuana in his possession. Newly formed Pageturners Book Club held its first meeting on Thursday, July 21 at Grace M. Pickens Library. The book club is sponsored by the library and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and is the “brainchild” of Librarian Kim McNaughton, local author Judy Goodspeed, retired HHS English instructor, Randa Phillips, and Byron Tapley of Wetumka.
